Early risers looking for a way to enjoy what is supposed to be some glorious verging-on-summer weather in New York this weekend—while supporting women’s health initiatives—should head over to Times Square tomorrow morning for the start of the annual Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) Revlon 5K Run/Walk for Women. Below, we’ve come up with a top three list of reasons why it’s worth your while to make for midtown on a Saturday:
1. As one of the largest single-day fundraisers for women’s cancers in the country, you could be among 25,000 cardio-enthusiasts burning calories together to help raise funds in support of breast and ovarian cancer research.
2. It’s supposed to be 85 degrees tomorrow, so getting yourself up, out, and moving early will ensure maximum enjoyment of the day. Plus, a 5K is like…only three miles. Bring a coffee and a friend and leisurely stroll your way up to Central Park’s East Meadow, where the event culminates.
3. Revlon brand ambassadors Halle Berry, Jessica Alba, and Jessica Biel will be there (we’re guessing in yoga pants and baseball caps), as will Revlon artistic director Gucci Westman. One Dr. Oz will also be in attendance (we fancy him more of a warm-up pants kind of guy).
Click here to register, or just show up in Times Square around 8:15 a.m. for the opening ceremonies. Bring water, sunscreen, and peace of mind knowing that you’ve done womankind a small solid.
Mary J. Blige’s new fragrance with Carol’s Daughter, My Life, will finally make its debut this summer, and according to MJB, she created the perfume for herself and her fans as “a special tribute to us as women.” As such, it is intended to represent “every female’s everyday life,” which is perhaps why she is launching it on HSN, rather than in a high-end department store. Nothing says “everyday life” like ordering luxury goods from the privacy of your own home. [WWD]
Speaking of a tribute to women, Thierry Mugler will also honor the fairer sex this fall with Womanity, his latest olfactory effort that blends sweet and savory accords together in a pink gothic-design bottle. And when we say sweet and savory, we’re not kidding. Fig and caviar essences come together to frame this fragrance. Intriguing… [WWD]
Penélope Cruz will be the new face of Lancôme Trésor. With Julia Roberts already hawking its mascaras, the French beauty brand may win the award for “Best Celeb Spokesperson Roster” this year. [StyleList]
And in other A-listers-in-the-beauty-game news, Scarlett Johansson will continue her face time for Dolce & Gabbana’s The Makeup by shooting a campaign for its summer collection, for which she has reunited with old friends Pat McGrath and Oribe. The images are as iconic, old-Hollywood-glamour as it gets, as to be expected; color collections may be seasonal, but big blonde hair, boobs, and pouty lips are forever. [Grazia]
To truly “get” Purple Lab NYC, a beauty brand launched by fashion/beauty veteran Karen Robinovitz, you must first understand Robinovitz herself. A petite, curly-haired blonde who’s moved in and out of New York’s media circles for the past 15 years, she’s sharp, witty, and not afraid of going after what she wants—which, turns out, is double-duty makeup that boasts scientifically backed formulas, buzzword ingredients, and fashion-forward color ranges with cheeky names to boot. Her star product, Huge Lips Skinny Hips, shot to fame last year after entering the makeup category as a lip plumper that also curbs your appetite, thanks to a good helping of Hoodia gordonii extracts. To really sell it, Robinovitz went on HSN so she could explain both the concept and the collection in her own personality-plus style. She’s back on the network today at 3 p.m. with four new colors of HLSH and a host of other products, including Cheek Implants, a collagen and hyaluronic acid-infused blush with a creamy finish, and Luvah, a plumping lip gloss duo that includes essences of ylang-ylang (a known aphrodisiac) in two shades named for archetypes of boyfriends past, those being Rich Jerk, a muted berry, and Mama’s Boy, a subtle nude. Our experience lies more with the latter, and, ironically, that color seems to look particularly good on us, too.
Summer is coming, and as per our conversation with celebrity stylist George Papanikolas earlier this week, that means it’s time to bring out your best blonde. No one knows how to fix up their flaxen for the season better than Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Hudson, and Claire Danes; all three actresses showed up to Chopard’s 150th anniversary party last night in New York sporting their own special brand of the hue. Gwyneth was the fairest of them all, adding a slight wave to her signature, middle-parted corn silk strands; K. Hud showcased a more ombré incarnation, with visible roots that transitioned into lighter mid-lengths with slightly darker sections at the ends; and Claire went for an almost uniform honey color with a deep side part. Who do you think did blonde best?
Everyone loves a Nars Multiple. It was true when François Nars debuted the multitasking product as the cornerstone of his eponymous collection back in 1994, and it’s even more so today. This weekend, your gotta-have-it drive for the three-in-one, cream-based sticks may kick into high gear. The company is launching three limited-edition sheer Multiple Tints for summer. Cadaqués is a true hot pink; Beverly Hills is a deep, bright fuchsia; and Turks & Caicos is a punchy shade of orange—the idea being to pump up the color on cheeks and lips as the temperature rises. Yes, these hues are less conducive to eyes, but we’re liking the way Turks & Caicos is looking on our lids at the moment: very tropical. Set your iCal reminders; they’re available online starting tomorrow.
