MAC Makes Its Times Square Debut
After announcing its plans last year to join the ever-growing beauty mecca that is Times Square, MAC’s newest freestanding outpost finally opened yesterday. It joins not one but two Sephoras, a Bare Escentuals, a supersized L’Occitane, Inglot, and Walgreens’ behemoth flagship—the one with the suped-up cosmetics section and that impossible-to-miss 17,000-square-foot LED billboard. This is MAC’s sixth store in New York and will serve as one of the brand’s global flagship locations. The storefront’s glass facade has its own digital light spectacular, as any Times Square atelier must, and an elevated podium featuring makeup stations for on-site applications and demos sits at the center of the store. The other perk exclusive to this location? Touch-screen computers. Visitors can peruse the brand’s offerings online and maybe read a few of MAC’s artists’ tweets on its Twitter page while they wait for their turn at the register. The beauty biz is all about social networking these days, don’t you know?
