Ohne Titel And Revlon’s Gucci Westman Do Real Beauty-------
No cash for an ad campaign? The next best thing for transmitting your message, many designers have been discovering lately, is a well-produced lookbook, print or digital. Ohne Titel designers Alexa Adams and Flora Gill seek out “inspirational” collaborators for their online marketing materials. The job requirements: “We work with people who are strong and interesting,” Adams told us about the design duo’s approach, which has already made models out of 80-year-old former fashion buyer and retailer Marilyn Reisman and artist Tauba Auerbach. “It’s pretty organic,” she admits of the selection process. And fans of the brand, like Cecilia Dean, who will be representing the Fall collection, are usually more than willing to oblige. “I was totally flattered,” Dean said of being asked to participate in the shoot,
which wrapped this weekend at the Eldridge and also includes cameos from Interview‘s Christopher Bollen and L.A.-based boutique owner Zainab Sumu. “I wear a lot of their stuff anyway,” Dean added. “Wearing their clothes, it’s like I’m heading for battle and ready to take on the world.”
Dean, who confessed that she rarely wears makeup or even does her hair, was being tended to on set by Revlon’s global artistic director, Gucci Westman. (World domination often requires a little touch-up, after all.) Westman, who can be credited for the beauty look at Ohne Titel’s runway presentations, whipped up a “lived in” seventies-inspired eye for the occasion, blending Revlon’s Luxurious Color Satin and Perle Eye Shadow in Black Galaxy across Dean’s lids and smudging its Luxurious Color Eyeliner in Black Velvet around her upper lash line. A thin stroke of Revlon’s ColorStay Liquid Eye Pen “kicked out” at the outer corners’ of Dean’s eyes and a more-is-more approach with its Grow Luscious mascara added a hint of drama to the whole look. To really give off the “just leaving the club” vibe she was going for, Westman mixed a little lip balm on top of her shadow job and spritzed Dean’s face with water so that the Age Defying Spa Face Illuminator on her cheeks appeared dewy and glowing. Was this a sneak peek at what we can expect to see backstage at Ohne’s show come September? Not so much. “These are real personalities, so you want to emphasize their individuality—not make them look like one person,” Westman explained of her creative direction. What we did get to preview was the face painter’s new limited-edition Multi Use Palette, part of her Fall Suede Rhapsody Collection, due out in October. Four creamy colors for eyes and cheeks sit on top of a universally flattering shade of reddish pink lip tint that slides out to the side like spy gear. “I hope this is the first of more of these in different shades,” Westman divulged.
