“Swimsational” Beauty—And Crazy Bikinis To Match

-------

We arrived at 230 Fifth last night at the same time as a cab full of men in tights, cutoffs, bustiers, and lipstick. No doubt about it, we were in the right place for Patricia Field’s “Swimsational Disco Soirée.” In between styling Sex and the City 2 and doing the press junket, Field and her trusted designer, David Dalrymple, found time to create a swimwear, eyewear, and beach towel collection—which obviously meant a full-fledged, disco-themed runway show was in order.

Backstage, makeup artist Carlo Longo (that would be Vincent’s face-painting cousin, for those of you scratching your head) was busy crafting chiseled cheeks and bright pouts courtesy of Vincent Longo Thinstick Lipstick in London, a true red, and Priscilla, a vibrant fuchsia. Also in the works was a “graphic and sultry” elongated smoky eye that Longo built on a gradient from white at the inner corners to black toward the temple. “The whole look is clean, so it works with the swimwear, but it’s also a little out there, which is very Patricia,” hairstylist Rodney Cutler chimed in. Well, maybe more than a little out there. Cutler, for his part, was crafting what he termed Avatar-style doubled-over fishtail braids. As he crossed segments of hair, he coated each section with a little bit of Redken Align 12, a smoothing agent, to keep things sleek and manageable. The brand’s Forceful hair spray ensured the tight, almost amphibious updos remained in place throughout the show. It was certainly a departure from the more manicured beauty you’ll see on SATC 2. Nope, not even Carrie Bradshaw could pull this look off.
