YSL Tips The Scale
Over the last few years, Chanel has established itself as the brand for fashion-forward nail polishes, and the interesting shade of pale baby blue that Peter Philips debuted in Saint-Tropez this week is an indication that the house has no plans of slowing down the trend-setting anytime soon. But YSL is poised to give Chanel a run for its money. The Beauté arm of the iconic fashion label had one of spring’s surprise hits in its Mauve Silk lacquer, a pale lavender that sold out almost immediately upon hitting counters. For summer, it has added two new limited-edition shades to its gold-capped offerings, Ultra Violet—a true fuchsia—and Ultra Orange, a sheer mandarin varnish that almost has the quality of a jelly polish, in that it goes on sheer and can be built for opacity or layered with other colors for texture and dimension. Hopefully, YSL stays the innovation course; having a wealth of obscure, designer nail colors to choose from can only spell good things for the industry—and our own personal mani/pedi experience.
