Francesco Clark Puts Pen To Paper

You’re probably already aware of Clark’s Botanicals, the niche skincare line that features a little something called Nourishing Youth Serum, its smash-hit anti-wrinkle treatment, and a little something else called Cellular Lifting Serum, which was one of the first products to harness the skin-protecting power of rare Swiss apple stem cells. They’re fabulous, right? Well, the man behind the brand, Francesco Clark, is even more awe-inspiring than his skin salves. Eight years ago, a 24-year-old Clark dove into the shallow end of a pool and suffered massive spinal cord injuries that left him paralyzed from the neck down. From the beginning, Clark defied expectations, quickly abandoning the ventilator doctors thought he would be forever hooked up to, and subjecting himself to years of experimental therapies and surgery to attain the range of motion he has today. Another result of the accident was a skin condition that robbed Clark of the ability to sweat out toxins. So he decided to address the issue by creating his own skincare line with the help of his doctor father, and thus was born Clark’s Botanicals. The entirety of Clark’s incredible, and frankly, pretty miraculous, story can now be found in his new book, Walking Papers: The Accident That Changed My Life, and the Business That Got Me Back on My Feet (Hyperion), which hit shelves this week. We suggest adding it to your summer reading list and poring over it in between applications of Clark’s Ultra Rich Lip Balm, the brand’s après-sun godsend.
