A Body Wash For Steamy Summer Nights

July 21, 2010  11:01 am

The body has a very simple and efficient way of dealing with the heat—sweat. Unfortunately, there is no on/off switch for the internal cooling system, and during hot nights, my body really likes to sweat. The balmy evenings of late have left me with clogged pores and the occasional body breakout—especially on my chest—and in an effort to clear things up, I’ve been experimenting with various remedies. I came close to coating myself in a thick glob of Clearasil, but Because Purifying Body Cleanser has proved to be a much more practical and effective solution. Rather than relying on salicylic acid or benzyl peroxide, which can be drying for sensitive types like me, this new wash contains mostly organic-grown ingredients (70 percent, to be exact), including white willow bark extract to soothe inflammation and redness, skin-balancing grapefruit oil, and manuka oil, a tea tree oil native to New Zealand with blemish-ridding capabilities. The consistency is a bit thin and runny at first, but once you work the cleanser into a lather (I rub it between my palms), it thickens up and spreads over the arms, legs, back, and the sweat-prone décolletage area quite nicely. I also like its fresh citrus scent (not too bitter or sweet) and the generously sized bottle; it’s a tall 6.8 fluid ounce container made from opaque, impact-resistant plastic that protects the liquid inside from light exposure. I plan on using all of it.
