Alice + Olivia + MAC Cosmetics-------
Fresh off its wildly successful Liberty of London partnership, MAC has teamed up with Alice + Olivia’s Stacey Bendet for a new limited-edition collection that hits counters this week. Bendet, whose New York-meets-L.A. line of sophisticated, playful staples has found fans in Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Lopez, and Blake Lively, to name a few, has dreamed up a ten-piece cosmetics collection. “For me, clothing and cosmetics should be whimsical. They should both make you smile and feel flirtatious,” Bendet says. “With that in mind, I wanted our packaging and our colors to be like candy. Everyone loves candy!” There are three pigments—a deep pearlescent black, a frosty white/pink, and a sparkly turquoise—as well as three new shades of MAC’s Dazzleglass Crème lip gloss, including I Want Candy, an electric yellow that goes on like a pale gold when worn on its own. (You can also heed the advice of MAC director of makeup artistry Gregory Arlt and apply it on top of a matte red lipstick for a chic orange luster.) Bendet’s favorite pieces from the range (and ours, too) happen to be the nail polishes, which include Morning After, a stunning cobalt teal, and Military, a shimmering shade of matte asphalt gray. Nothing about the latter reminds us of confections, but seeing as how it looks killer on our fingertips, we’re willing to let the thematic slip slide.
