Lancôme’s Magnétique Appeal

With its nod to the Belle Époque and the bohemian glamour of French coquettes, Lancôme’s fall offering has quickly become one of our favorite new collections to recently hit shelves. Conceived by artistic director Aaron De Mey, the color palette for the line includes seasonal berry and rich neutral tones featured in such standouts as Cherry Kiki, a new deep plum shade of L’Absolu Rouge lipstick, and La Rose Deco, a beautifully embossed pink-gold face powder. The real highlight, though, is a metallic eye shadow that we had the pleasure of previewing backstage at Victoria Beckham’s Fall presentation (we’ve managed to contain our enthusiasm for it for five months and counting). Formulated with specialized polymers, Ombre Magnétique is a cross between an intensely opaque loose pigment and an easy-to-wear cream shadow—so it glides on, doesn’t crease, and doesn’t flake off. Add to this a hefty helping of mother-of-pearl, and you have a near impermeable foil effect that makes every blink of the eye that much more dramatic. The Urban Silver shade we spied at VB is a current favorite, although we get the feeling that the magenta-tinged Cherry Cherie and the sparkly onyx Black Macadam will also get some play come September—and we may need to wait that long to get our hands on them. The shadows won’t ship until mid-August, but you can add them to your wish list here and be one of the first people to receive them when they’re back in stock.
