Breaking: Spas Shuttering In Manhattan
Attention, fans of Spa Chakra: Future appointments are canceled indefinitely. Clients trying to reach the relaxation haven’s New York, Chicago, San Francisco, and Marina del Rey outposts have been greeted with a pre-recorded voicemail message that goes a little something like this: “All Spa Chakra-operated U.S. locations will cease operations. We appreciate your patronage.” The Web site is also down, should you be trying to figure out where your favorite aesthetician has resurfaced (Fifth Avenue outpost hair artist Mary Cohen is temporarily holding court at Senses Salon at 138 Fifth, FYI). It sounds like financial mismanagement is to blame for the closings. The biggest bummer of the story is that Guerlain’s exceptional spa at the Waldorf Astoria has also been shuttered without warning, as it was owned by the same company. According to comments from Guerlain, its spa is waiting for new management, and once that materializes, “it’ll be like it never happened.” The company expects to reopen doors on November 1. The question is: Can your extraction and face-sloughing needs wait until then?
