Sneak Peek: Trump’s New Soho Spa

August 6, 2010  7:55 am

Spa scoop! After months of speculation, the Trump SoHo has finally confirmed that it will unveil its sparkling, 11,000-square-foot spa this month (and most likely in the next few days). Ivanka Trump led the design of the bi-level space, which was inspired by her recent trips through Istanbul and the Middle East and includes nine treatment rooms plus two hammams featuring Turkish and Moroccan services. The Turkish version smoothes the body with oil-based castile soap and eliminates dead skin with the traditional Kessa mitt (be prepared: a truly authentic rubdown is pretty intense), while the Moroccan variety uses the country’s native black soap made from crushed olives and finishes with an application of warmed Ghassoul clay to draw out impurities. The menu also includes plenty of Eastern Ayurvedic touches, like the Shirodhara shampoo, which Trump recommends for “more seasoned or adventurous guests.” During the ancient ritual, a stream of warm herbal-infused oil is poured onto the forehead and then massaged into the scalp, along with herbs to nourish and condition strands. In a bit of a coup, the Trump SoHo is the only hotel spa in New York where luxe facials from superstar skin expert Kate Somerville, whom Trump has been seeing for years, are available. The “Ultimate Kate,” a super-hydrating oxygen treatment that plumps and firms the face, is Ivanka’s personal favorite and can be had for $350.
