We’ve Got Your Fashion Week Spa Fix

The Mandarin Oriental has always been a prime spot for relaxation, but with New York fashion week relocating to Lincoln Center, its Columbus Circle locale will become an even more convenient rest stop. Expect increased competition for those cushy sofas in the cocktail lounge and more difficulty booking an appointment at the posh spa. To coincide with the start of the shows, the spa will debut a new two-hour Himalayan Salt, Sea & Chakra Therapy, a total-body purification, balancing, and sequential healing session that combines ancient spa rituals with modern holistic practices. After a calming detox tea ceremony, footbath, and lavender facial cleanse, an aesthetician assesses your body to determine any imbalances and then sorts out said imbalances with a series of hot and cold fixes (think infrared sauna wraps and chilled aromatherapy compresses). Next, it’s on to an extremely thorough lymphatic drainage—the therapist actually uses silicone cups to draw excess fluid to the surface so it can be released (cupping enthusiasts, take note). The rest of the treatment focuses on pure relaxation: There’s a massage with heated Himalayan salt crystals, which are rich in skin-nourishing minerals; chakra energy work to ease tension; and a facial oxygen marine mist to hydrate and perk up a weary complexion. Sounds like a boost that might come in handy, and FYI, we hear you can pre-book your appointment now so you don’t get shut out.
