At Cushnie et Ochs, D.I.Y Minx

We know the blog is looking a little nail heavy at the moment (really, is that a bad thing?) but there’s a lot of quality polish happenings at NYFW. Among the more impressive outings we’ve seen so far was Dashing Diva’s “dripping with gold” foils at Cushnie et Ochs yesterday. The idea was to make it appear as though models had been “digging in gold,” so nail techs applied foils a few millimeters above the actual nail line to simulate imperfection. Here’s where things got interesting: there were no Minx overlays to be found backstage, just bottles of milky white nail glue that were used as a base coat and sheets of gold foil that apparently cost $1 on the Internet. “Just Google nail art foils,” we were advised—which we did, and low and behold, foils on the cheap. Apply directly to glue, smooth with a cotton pad, and pull away the sheet to leave a gilded finish. No top coat was used backstage to allow for easy removal but if you’re taking this art project for a spin at home, we’d recommend using Dashing Diva’s Top Seal for longevity purposes.
