Seven Days Of Purple Lipstick: Part 5
After Sunday’s blue-tinted purple experience, I went with something decidedly more red for day five of my makeup trial run. The result? A bona fide hit with backstage regulars, one very influential designer, and my complexion.
The Lipstick: NARS Pure Matte Lipstick in Volga.
The Application: The newest pout perfectors from NARS come in a skinny tube with a slanted tip, which makes for easy gliding and lining. You could use a separate liner with these if you want, but the slant shape actually allows for pretty decent precision, if you have a steady hand.
The Upside: It’s a beautiful red-tinged berry color that definitely doesn’t smudge or travel outside of the lip line. I think I’ve found my signature color with this one, as fellow beauty editors and publicists alike were most responsive to the shade of this bullet. Marc Jacobs also must like it because he used the same wine-stained hue at his show last night.
The Downside: I like a matte lip but this one was slightly drying. A good pre-lipstick balm is necessary to keep it from getting a little cake-y.
The Final Word: Beauty Counter-tested, and Marc-approved.
