A Very Merry NARS Christmas, With Hints Of Daphne Guinness And Rothko
Two hallmarks of the traditional holiday beauty collection—the color red and sparkles—are nowhere to be found in NARS’ seasonal offerings, and we couldn’t be happier about it. Instead, François Nars has imagined something much less predictable, namely his muse Daphne Guinness as a futuristic ice queen with eyes hazily rimmed in cobalt blue, cheeks adorned with a contoured swath of peach, a pink lip, and a severe silver Louise Brooks-style bob. (What? That’s not the look you typically go with for tree-trimming functions?) The collection includes a pair of standout lipsticks—a shimmering berry called Petit Monster and a sheer nude dubbed Little Darling, and two very covetable nail lacquers in Pokerface, a creamy lilac that will likely carry purple obsessions into the colder months, and Bad Influence, a rich taupe. And then there’s the Okinawa shadow palette, a trio of silver, jet black, and deepest blue pigments that was apparently inspired by Nars’ favorite Rothko painting. Put them on heavy rotation in the weeks to come, and remember: Nothing slips into a stocking—or a nondenominational gift bag—better than a square, black-capped bottle of NARS lacquer.
