François Nars’ Hot Pots

October 12, 2010  5:37 pm

François Nars’ soon-to-be-released Bento Box Set was a decade in the making. The maquillage master went to Japan ten years ago and fell in love with Kabuki makeup. When he returned home, he brought a unique souvenir with him—a porcelain pot containing a thin film of red Kabuki lip color—and ever since, he’s wanted to re-create it for his eponymous line. Finally next month, his efforts will be unveiled. The limited-edition Bento Box Set includes a lip brush and two cups lined with hand-poured lipstick. In keeping with the concept of Kabuki, the Japanese theater tradition of translating emotions into colors, Nars chose Maiko, a bright red hue, to represent passion, and Sakura, a hot pink, to symbolize youth. (Blend them together and watch out!) Only 1,000 sets were created for sale in the United States; until they become available on November 1, you can join the wait list at www.narscosmetics.com to secure a place in line.
