Cos Beauty Bar Heads South
While Jennifer Aniston and Nicole Kidman were on location in Wailea, Hawaii, in May shooting Just Go With It—yet another rom-com Aniston can add to her CV when it hits theaters next year—both were spotted at the Cos Bar stocking up on hard-to-come by prestige beauty essentials. There’s no reason to let a remote locale stop you from partaking of Chanel lip glosses, NARS Orgasm Blush, and Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer—at least according to Cos founder Lily Garfield. Garfield moved from Manhattan to Aspen in the mid-seventies and discovered that her supply of skincare creams couldn’t stand up to the intense climes of the Rockies. The high altitude, strong sun, and harsh wind left her—and other well-to-do residents—saddled with chapped, red skin in dire need of luxurious moisture. Inspired, she opened her flagship Cos Beauty Bar in her hometown and stocked it with the best brands she could find, including La Mer and Sisley. Future boutiques soon followed in resort-y locations—including Vail, Colorado; Atlantic City, New Jersey; and Montecito, California. This month, Garfield will open her 12th concept store in Charleston, South Carolina—and just in the nick of time, too. “Saks Fifth Avenue recently closed in Charleston, so we felt it was the right time to open in the area to provide residents with a place to purchase their favorite beauty brands.” The idea here, as with all Cos locations, is high-end primping—Natura Bissé, Bulgari, Giorgio Armani Cosmetics, and a selection of choice YSL Beauté products line the shelves. We won’t see a Cos in New York anytime in the near future (according to Garfield, the boutiques are “strategically placed in exclusive destinations that are void of department stores”), but rest assured that wherever golden sticks of YSL’s Touché Eclat are needed, Cos will soon be there.
