Kate Middleton’s Skincare Secrets, Revealed

November 29, 2010  4:07 pm

We’ve read all about Kate Middleton’s 18-carat sapphire ring, the matching Issa dress, and, of course, the subsequent knockoffs. The real question, for us, was how Prince William’s bride-to-be comes by her stunning complexion. Turns out, she owes her glowing skin to Swiss beauty brand Karin Herzog. “Ms. Middleton uses the Professional Cleanser, the Vita-A-Kombi 1, the Vita-A-Kombi 3 Spot Zapper, and the Oxygen Face Cream,” Karin Herzog’s U.K. managing director, Julie Cichocki, elaborated for us, explaining that a friend of Ms. Middleton’s introduced her to the brand.

Founded by Nobel honoree Dr. Paul Herzog, the company pioneered the use of oxygen in beauty products, spawning an entire trend in the industry—and garnering a number of celebrity fans (Uma Thurman, Victoria Beckham, Renée Zellweger, Courtney Love, and Jerry Hall, among them). “Stress is the number one culprit for depleting oxygen in the skin, and, poor girl, what could be more stressful than an international announcement of a royal wedding, with cameras from every news agency pointed at you,” Cichocki opined. “A wedding of any kind is stressful for a bride, and still, her skin looked just beautiful—dewy, plump, fresh.”

Karin Herzog is no stranger to celebrity weddings, of course. Aestheticians from the brand were invited by Stella McCartney to pamper guests at the designer’s 2002 nuptials. So, is there another big day on the horizon for the company? “We are in talks with Clarence House now about doing the beauty for the bridal party—it’s early days still, but we’ll keep you posted on that one,” Cichocki told us.

As for keeping her cuticles and hands in camera-ready condition (images of that wedding band are already dancing in our head), Cichocki had a piece of advice for Ms. Middleton and other future brides-to-be: “Our Hand & Nail Cream does more than moisturize; it also prevents fungal infection. Dr. Herzog originally created the product to sterilize doctors’ hands to hospital-grade, and the cream developed from there. Beautiful, white clean nails are every bit as important as youthful-looking skin.”
