At Nars, Spring Has Sprung
Backstage at Marc Jacobs in September, makeup artist François Nars was putting a few of his Spring 2011 staples into heavy rotation. As most onlookers noticed, it was his glossy, glam eye that was particularly stunning, boasting interwoven shades of green and topped off with a slick of Vaseline for a glistening finish. For the past four months, we’ve been looking forward to the day when Nars’ new offerings would hit shelves so we could play Marc Jacobs at home. This weekend, the wait is finally over. Starting tomorrow, the face painter’s neon green Soft Touch Eye Pencil and his Nouveau Monde Eyeshadow Duo, the golden olive side of which produced the deep verdant finish he achieved at the show, will be available for purchase online, along with the rest of the range. Celebrate goes on semi-sheer, so it’s not an obnoxious shade of acid green, but rather a brightening agent that can really illuminate the inner corners of eyes when lids are dusted with darker pigments. Also of note is Desperado, a brassy lacquer that resembles NARS’ cult-favorite Mash, a metallic army green that was discontinued and then reissued last fall, much to our enjoyment. It’s different than the deep burgundy nails Jacobs requested at his presentation, of course, but a little variation on the original is a good thing; if you think you’re duplicating Guido Palau’s mass of frizzy curls by yourself, you are sorely mistaken.
