FIRST LOOK: NARS’ Bleecker Street Exclusives

February 4, 2011  1:21 pm

After making a name for himself as the editorial makeup artist in the late eighties—working with the likes of Linda, Cindy, and Naomi—François Nars launched his eponymous cosmetics line with a 12-piece lipstick range in 1994. It turned into a booming business, but you didn’t often see him backstage until February 2009, when he made a lot of noise, crafting over 60 different makeup looks for Marc Jacobs’ eighties-inspired Fall 2009 runway show. Cut to February 2011, and the Frenchman is about to cut the ribbon at his first standalone flagship store, a 600-square-foot stunner at 413 Bleecker Street designed by longtime collaborator Fabien Baron. The boutique will house all of your NARS favorites—the many iterations of the classic Orgasm blush, myriad Multiples, and an array of lipsticks and lip pencils (last season’s Pure Matte Lipstick in Volga is a must-own). There will also be two new products exclusive to the store: a Pure Matte Lipstick aptly called 413 Bleecker (a rosy brown) and a limited-edition version of Fall’s hit Bento Box set with a larger hand-crafted wooden box that boasts three extra compartments, both pictured here for the first time. Other exciting Bleecker Street initiatives will include collaborative efforts from Monsieur Nars and his friend Marc Jacobs, whose own stores happen to be a stone’s throw away.
