Ladies Who Lunch

Yesterday afternoon, Hollywood’s best and brightest gathered at the Beverly Hills Hotel for the 83rd annual Academy Awards Nominees Luncheon. All the usual suspects were there: Natalie, Michelle, Annette, Nicole, Amy, Hailee, Melissa. Noticeably missing was the heavy makeup. Daytime events call for a beauty look quite distinct from those preceded by long red carpets. Natural pigments, soft blown-out hair typically worn down, rather than in a structural updo, and lip gloss, not lipstick, are the call of the day. Cream blush in shades of apricot (Michelle Williams ) and pink (Amy Adams) reigns supreme. We’ve actually come to look forward to events like this because it gives us a chance to see some big-screen beauties in the flesh, without all of the pomp and circumstance. Nary a smoky eye made a cameo at this party, replaced instead by a few compulsory slashes of mascara (you need something to add drama in lieu of crimson pouts and aubergine shadows). Which got us to thinking: More actresses should go au naturel to better showcase their famous faces, don’t you agree?
