The 411: Linda Rodin

Linda Rodin may just be her own best advertisement. At 63 (yup, believe it), her skin is something to behold, thanks in large part to the dutiful application of the products that bear her name. Since it first hit shelves in 2008, her signature Rodin Olio Lusso has quickly earned cult-favorite status among beauty aficionados, finding its way into many a backstage makeup kit. Rodin’s own career has always revolved around fashion—she modeled in the sixties, before switching to the other side of the lens to assist Swedish photographer Gosta Peterson. Then she opened a designer-stocked boutique called Linda Hopp in SoHo, and put in stints at Henri Bendel and Harper’s Bazaar before settling into a long-term career as a stylist. It’s a role that’s given her the opportunity to work with some of the most legendary one-namers in the business, both photographers (Ritts, Avedon) and faces (Madonna, Gisele, Cindy, Linda). Rodin’s own style and beauty routine can be summed up in two words: simple elegance. Here, a peek at the products and places that help her put her best face forward.

The Skincare: The Rodin Routine

“I only use my own products on my skin. Both A.M. and P.M., I cleanse my face with the new facial cleanser [hitting shelves in a few months], pat it dry leaving it moist, and rub three drops of Olio Lusso all over. I do the exact same thing with the body oil. I use the lip balm at night and many times during the day. With the hair oil, I use two drops in the morning to hydrate and refresh my hair, then after washing it every three days I either add a few drops to my leave-in conditioner or to towel-dried hair.”

The Makeup: Magic Mix

“I always use the Shu Uemura lip pencil #375, the most gorgeous pink, and on top, a lovely Chanel color, Rouge Allure in Insolente, given to me by makeup artist Fulvia Farolfi. It’s very creamy and stays on a long time. I also use Rose-Marie Swift’s Cream Eye Shadow and her Lip2Cheek as blush. Rose-Marie makes all-natural products and the colors reflect that; they don’t appear as anything other than natural on your skin which is perfect for me.”

The Escape: Positano, Italy

“I’m fortunate to have a best friend who lives in Paris, with places in Rome and Corsica. I so prefer being with dear friends than in hotels. But that said, one of my very favorite hotels is in Positano. It’s called Buca di Bacco and the last time I was there I had a room with an amazing bathroom with a tub looking out onto the sea. I go anywhere where there’s a beach and shells; beachcombing is yoga to me.”

The Complexion Corrector: Dr David Colbert

“I do everything at Dr. Colbert. He does my facials, he’s my dermatologist—he’s my guru. I’ve been doing triad medical facials at his office and I use his Intensify Facial Discs. And also his book, The High School Reunion Diet, is basically my only cookbook. It’s so healthy and it all makes sense. He’s just been a great influence on me. I met him as a patient when I had spots that I had to have looked at and he was the first person besides a few friends who I showed my Olio Lusso to. He flipped over it, and now he carries it in his office.”

The Massage Therapist: Kevin McCabe

“I go to this amazing guy Kevin for massages. Dr Colbert actually recommended him to me. He is just the gentle giant; a very handsome tall guy who gives the most magical massages.”

The Fragrance: D.S. & Durga

“I have a favorite that’s amazing by D.S. & Durga. I am in love with all of their scents and I’ve been wearing Siberian Snow for a while. Such a creative and interesting couple, and I love everything they make.”

The Nails: Jackie Padilha

“Jackie is amazing and she comes to you. She does a Brazilian manicure that is just fantastic; she is the best-kept secret in New York. I just have normal manicures, nothing glittery. I do like dark colors like Chanel Vamp, or neon pink or orange, even though they are not always in style. I look horrible in beige or khaki—like I’m embalmed!

The Hair Product: Clairol Shimmer Lights

“My hair is completely silver; I haven’t colored it in 35 years. I’m very low maintenance in the hair department. I just cut it myself by holding it up in a ponytail and cutting the dead ends; I always wear my hair up anyway. The only product I always use is Clairol Shimmer Lights because nothing else keeps silver hair so nice.”
