The 411: Physique 57′s Tanya Becker

With the stores cluttered with figure-revealing sheers and slim silhouettes, exercising has taken on a whole new level of importance this season—particularly for members of the fashion tribe who have let their workout regimens fall by the wayside over the last month of nonstop shows. Enter Physique 57, the fitness trend that, thanks in large part to famous (and svelte) fans like Kelly Ripa, Parker Posey, and Zooey Deschanel, has proven itself to be much more than a passing fad when it comes to stretching and strengthening all the body’s muscle groups. Co-founder and director of training Tanya Becker’s super-intense 57-minute workouts, which utilize a combination of ballet barre and isometric movements to sculpt and tone using your own body weight as resistance, have become New York’s favorite way to stay bikini-ready all year round. A dancer since she was 15, Becker spent a decade teaching the fitness-guru-favorite Lotte Berk Method, and definitely knows her stuff when it comes to the body beautiful. Here, she shares some of her own best bets for proper primping.

The Fragrance: Annick Goutal

“Annick Goutal’s Petite Cherie is my very favorite. It’s light enough for me to wear while I’m teaching and you can easily layer it with different fragrances for a more personalized and stronger evening scent.”

The Refresher: Cake Satin Sugar Hair and Body Powder

“I love my Cake body powder. I actually like to use it right after class because nothing is better at taking all the oil and sweat out of your scalp.”

The Zit Zapper: Kate Somerville

“I haven’t found anything more effective than Kate Somerville’s EradiKate for getting rid of the occasional blemish.”

The Workout-on-the-Go: Physique 57 DVDs

“We actually just released a second volume of our Workout series, and I never travel without both of them in my bag.”
