Anne Hathaway’s Vision Quest

It was a simple contact solution mishap that led to Anne Hathaway’s much discussed, er, spectacle at the Rio premiere yesterday in L.A. Having run out of her go-to bottle of cleansing fluid, the star had a pal pick up reinforcements, but the friend brought back the wrong brand. “It was a last-minute decision. She put her glasses on and we were all like, ‘You should just wear your glasses!” Hathaway’s makeup artist Molly Stern said. And so Hathaway stuck with her trusty, thick-rimmed frames—and Stern sprung into action, working some glasses-centric face-painting magic. “You’re framing your eye as if it’s a piece of art, so you have room to play around more,” Stern said of the extra helping of NARS Eyeshadow in Daphne—a deep violet—that she scrawled across Hathaway’s lash lines before adding multiple coats of its Larger Than Life Volumizing Mascara. Stern’s other tips for complexion perfection with glasses: a bit of blush on the apples of the cheeks blended out toward the temple (she likes NARS’ new peachy shade, dubbed Sex Appeal) and a “fun” lip, like NARS new Velvet Matte Lipstick in Mayflower, due out this summer. What do you think: two thumbs up for Hathaway’s four-eyed look?
