Everything’s Coming Up Roses

The almost universally appealing scent of rose oil is liked by some and revered by others. Perfumer Marie-Helene Rogeon, is, bien sûr, among the latter. The creator of Les Parfums de Rosine, the Paris-based fragrance line devoted entirely to different strains of rose essence, Rogeon cultivates a range of the flower’s different varieties in her Picardy garden, just an hour outside of the City of Light. The first rose bush she ever planted was the Clair Matin, a briar rose that has an incredibly fresh, almost zesty scent when it opens, evolving into something more rich and fruity as the sun beats down on its petals, and its interesting scent profile has inspired Rogeon’s latest olfactory creation, aptly called Clair Matin. Raspberry leaf absolute, Italian lemon, and blackcurrant buds have been fused together to help nurture the flower’s juicier inclinations, while essences of violet, peony, sandalwood, and amber magnify its sweet, powdery heart. It’s currently 78 degrees in Manhattan, and it seems more than appropriate to take this summery eau fraiche out to lunch, spritzed onto our pulse points to mingle with the warm air. For the record, we will in fact be dining al fresco.
