Ric Pipino Heads North

As much as celebrity hairstylist Ric Pipino loves his “little Nolita shop,” as he calls his jewel box salon on Centre Market Place, he knew it was time to move up—uptown, that is. The silver-haired, skinny-tie-loving pro cut the ribbon at his second Manhattan outpost last night on 57th Street just off Park Avenue, flanked by fans and clients including Rebecca Romijn and Leigh Lezark. “The idea of having a larger salon, especially one in such a central location, was a natural,” says Pipino. His sparkling new atelier includes all the signature services downtown devotees have come to depend on (perfectly sculpted cuts, killer blowouts, Tata Harper organic facials), plus a few additional perks. For one, Pipino teamed up with Wella Professionals to turn his salon into the first U.S. flagship for its global hair-color brand. The color bar is fittingly tricked out with the latest advances in technology for base tones and highlights, which Pipino plans on using to tint the tresses of clients like Pamela Love and Genevieve Jones. Also worth noting: Nutritionists from F-Factor and mind/body experts at Dasha Wellness can be booked for chair-side consultations (both companies are conveniently located in the same building), so you can multitask while under the dryer. And it wouldn’t be a proper Pipino pad without a few super-luxe design touches. “I was inspired by French architecture and an eclectic-chic theme, so we threw in accents from the sixties and seventies, but in a way that still maintains the cool vibe of my downtown salon,” Pipino says of the interior. The only thing missing? Those Fendi chairs he famously installed in his Nolita outpost. But rest assured—the sleek black swivelers in their place are “just as cushy.”
