The Blood Type Diet Evolves Into Skincare

As a naturopath and the creator of the famed Blood Type Diet, Dr. James D’Adamo pioneered a revolutionary method of natural healing in the eighties with the release of his first book, One Man’s Food…Is Someone Else’s Poison. His theory, in broad strokes: Analyzing your blood type, along with sub-blood groups and other factors, provides insight into how you should eat, exercise, cope with illness, and even pinpoint personality traits. Type As, for example, function best on a vegetarian diet, while Type O’s crave more animal proteins like red meat, fish, and dairy. (That’s just the tip of D’Adamo’s findings—the book is a fascinating read). “Patients kept telling me that they wanted to look as good as they felt after following the Blood Type Diet,” D’Adamo says. So he took the next logical step in today’s booming green marketplace and created a line of all-natural skincare. “I based these products on [my patients’] top requests,” the doctor says of his latest breakthrough, which includes an ozone-infused Revitalizing Facial Cream blended with emu oil, vitamin E, and rosemary to improve skin’s moisture barrier; and a Facial Cleanser containing botanicals (calendula, tea tree oil, neem oil, ginger) to eliminate breakouts and stimulate circulation. Unlike his individually catered diet and exercise plans, both of the new releases are meant to work for all blood types (he only mixes up custom fixes for clients at his Portsmouth, NH, clinic). “Doing a [broad] cream or cleanser for Type A or AB wouldn’t work because I’d need to tailor it to your profile first,” he explains, pointing out that while it’s not entirely necessary to see results, being on the Blood Type Diet can definitely enhance the benefits of his topical products. The combination yields increased energy, less headaches, awesome digestion, and radiant skin. To which we say, when’s the next train to Portsmouth?
