We’re Sweet On Sour

If you’re in the market for a failsafe way to get rid of scalp buildup before the summer sun and surf wreak even more havoc on your hair, look no further than your kitchen pantry. “Vinegar is a natural cleansing product,” New Jersey-based hairstylist Tammy Ostendorf told us recently after a trip to Cosmoprof—the beauty trade show to end all trade shows that takes place annually in Bologna. “I’ve never found anything, even clarifying shampoos, that gives the same results,” Ostendorf revealed of the simple wash that was being touted in Italy. Fill a mixing bottle 1/3 of the way full with regular white vinegar and 2/3 with your daily shampoo, then shake well, lather, rinse, and repeat. Silky, smooth strands will follow. Two to three treatments should do the trick, according to Ostendorf, who also recommends switching to a replenishing cleanser and conditioner, like L’Anza Healing Moisture Tamanu Cream Shampoo and Kukui Nut Conditioner, for optimal results. Ah, the sour, tangy smell of success.
