Since threading took off in the mid-aughties, there’s been no going back for us. The ancient Indian depilatory method that uses dedicated twists of a piece of looped string is not only thorough, leaving not one hair behind, but it’s also worlds better for your skin, preventing the kind of crepe-y aftereffect that comes from a long-standing relationship with hot wax and muslin strips. The one issue with the service, of course, is finding able-bodied aestheticians who not only possess the skill set to wield a long piece of doubled-over thread, but who also happen to be conveniently located in close proximity to your home or office—and readily accepting appointments. Vanita Parti set out to change all that in 2004 when she opened Blink Brow Bar in London’s Fenwick department store on Bond Street, before branching out to Selfridges and later Harvey Nichols. The first of its kind, Blink combined brow and lash grooming expertise with a walk-in only mentality. “The whole idea was to make it easy; you shop, you get your brows done,” says Blink’s manager, Jaimineey Patel.
Starting today, Blink is set to revolutionize the American threading experience as it opens its first stateside outpost on the cosmetics floor at Henri Bendel’s. “It’s pop in, pop out, and so much more,” Patel says, referring to the full menu of services on offer at the two-chair retail space, like lash perming, lash extensions, and head, neck, and shoulder massages. The real draw, though, is the brow grooming, which is a 15-minute treatment that includes a consultation—Blink’s highly trained team of professionals will typically do one brow and then show you their handiwork so you can weigh in on the shape before they move on to the other side—and a 60-second brow massage using the brand’s Rose or Aloe Vera Gel. The soothing, calming salves are just a few of the many products now available at Bendel’s from Blink’s in-house line, which also includes a set of wax-based brow pencils that are meant to coordinate with your skin tone and your actual hair color, and growth-stimulating brow and lash oil that combines essential almond, lavender, and sandalwood oils with rosemary extract, an active ingredient that helps fill in sparse arches and lengthen lashes. For those of you who call midtown home on the weekdays, consider your lunch break spoken for.
