L’Occitane Goes West-------
Manhattan’s Meatpacking District has long been a destination of choice for fashion houses—Stella McCartney, Alexander McQueen, and Yigal Azrouël have all kept shop there for years—but now the beauty world is beginning to follow suit. Bond No. 9 brought its 43 eaux de parfum to 863 Washington Street earlier this summer and L’Occitane is making similar moves. Provence’s most famous import will open the doors to its new Ninth Avenue digs tomorrow, replete with a mix of the kind of industrial touches the neighborhood is known for and a sunny, clean color scheme reminiscent of the South of France. A potting mural, exposed brick walls, vintage furniture, and a greenhouse roof are just some of the design elements featured in the new space, which is also the first of the brand’s New York outposts to showcase a men’s area that has been specifically designed to “put [them] at ease,” according to a release; cool gray slate floors will apparently make the purchasing of its Cade Youth Concentrate and Eau des Baux cologne that much more of a calming, soothing experience.
