The 411: In Fiore’s Julie Elliott
July 27, 2011 11:47 am
Natural beauty lines may be a dime a dozen these days, but In Fiore is one of the industry’s pioneers. The elegant San Francisco-born brand based around flower essences first hit shelves in 1999—that’s right, the nineties!—and has continued to add a slew of natural concoctions to its upscale apothecary-style offerings ever since. (If you happen to be an In Fiore novice, please allow us to direct your attention to the intoxicatingly earthy Kashmir Body Balm and the soothing, and delightfully scented, Vitale Toning Floral Essence). Here, founder Julie Elliott, who serves as the company’s master blender and perfumer as well, has kindly agreed to share her favorite Bay Area beauty locales to properly primp the body, mind and soul.
The Skincare Regimen: Personal Best
“My consistent go-to products are the In Fiore Lustra Cleansing Balm Concentre, which is like a facial in a jar. It keeps my skin clear, supple, and glowing. For antioxidants I feed my skin with Soleil Fleur, which prevents cell oxidation and protects the skin from environmental aggressions.”
In Fiore Lustra Cleansing Balm Concentre, $125, and Soleil Fleur, $115, www.infiore.net.
The Pout Perfector: Rouge G de Guerlain
“I’m all about skincare and I don’t wear a lot of makeup; the exception is a gorgeous red lipstick. My favorite is Guerlain Rouge G de Guerlain Lipcolor in Greta #22—a luminous red tucked in a cool mirrored compact. Everyone looks beautiful and radiant in red lipstick.”
Guerlain Rouge G de Guerlain in Greta, $47, www.sephora.com.
The Signature Scent: Mix and Match
“For me it’s all about layering. I like to wear my In Fiore Parfum Solide in Saffron of Kashmir with Molecule 01 by Escentric Molecules, and Avignon by Comme des Garçons.”
In Fiore Parfums Solides, $65 each, www.infiore.net; Molecule 01 by Escentric Molecules, $135, www.luckyscent.com; Avignon by Comme des Garçons, $80, www.luckyscent.com.
The Cut Above the Rest: Marcy Harmon
“A former San Francisco resident, [Marcy] now lives in L.A. but she comes to San Francisco every other month to see her devotees at Cowboys & Angels. Marcy is a master cutter. Her cuts are so flawless they barely require any styling and they grow out beautifully, which is great for a busy wash-and-wear type like myself.”
Marcy Harmon at Cowboys & Angels, 207 Powell St. #400, (415) 362-8516, www.cowboysandangels.com.
The Aesthetician: Yolanda Porrata at International Orange
“This is always my go-to place. All of the aestheticians and body workers are very experienced and regarded as some of the most talented in the Bay area. [Yolanda] has an impeccable attention to detail, with a ‘no pore left unturned’ attitude combined with lots of pampering. She leaves you glowing, refreshed, and relaxed—never blotchy.”
International Orange, 2044 Fillmore St., 2nd fl, (415) 563-5000, www.internationalorange.com.
The Pilates Instructor: Jill Harris
“I’ve been going to Jill of Informed Body for years. As a former dancer and gymnast she knows the body well. She helped me completely stabilize and correct a lower-back problem, strengthen my core, and I swear I am an inch taller.”
Jill Harris at Informed Body, 389 Grove St., (415) 626-1111, www.informedbody.com.
The Homeopathic Healer: Dr. Linda Lancaster at Light Harmonics Institute
“Linda is my mentor, teacher, and healer. She taught me how to keep my body clear of heavy metals and radiation and uses a healing system based on the philosophies of Ayurveda, Anthroposophy, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), Naturopathy, and Homeopathy. Although she is based in Santa Fe, she regularly sees clients in New York and San Francisco.”
Light Harmonics Institute, 7608 Old Santa Fe Trail, Santa Fe, NM (505) 989-4610, www.lightharmonics.com.
The Relaxation Destination: Crete
“I make my home here during the summer at the Ammos, an elegant boutique hotel situated right on a beautiful beach. The personalized service by owner Nikos is unsurpassed, the local food delicious, and day trips to other famous beaches such as Falassarna and Elafonisi accessible.”
Ammos, Glaros Beach, Chania, Crete, Greece; 30-28210-33003-25, www.ammoshotel.com.
The Uniform: Matt Dick
“I have silk kimono-sleeved caftans made for me by Matt Dick at his atelier on Post Street. When I walk, the sleeves flutter like butterflies and I’m constantly getting stopped on the street by women from all over the world asking where to get them.”
Mato Creative, 864 Post St., (415) 292-5550, www.matocreative.com.
