YSL Mouths Off-------
When YSL launched a shimmering, semi-sheer version of its highly pigmented Rouge Volupte lipstick line last fall, we were of course smitten. You could put anything in those gilded, meticulously embossed bullets and we’d want to buy it, but the brand’s Perle collection, with its micro-pearl and vegetable wax formula, was plenty wearable as well. The inaugural shade range consisted of six glimmering options with a slightly tinted finish—perfect for the lipstick novice. But seeing as how we consider ourselves experts in the field of full-color pout perfectors, we were left wanting a little more in the way of opacity—which the brand has delivered with its latest round of releases. While this fall’s Perle offerings include three new hues with the original finish in Spellbinding Violet, Brazen Plum, and Incandescent Orange, there are three others that pack a mirrorlike shine minus the sparkle, including the creamy nude Impetuous Beige, the pale lilac Celestial Mauve, and the deep, sanguine Mysterious Red, our personal favorite. We don’t usually wear high-gloss lipsticks as they have a tendency to move onto cheeks, teeth, clothes, what have you, but these colors—the flat shades, in particular—are totally worth the risk.
