Putting On the Ritz, L.A.-Style

August 1, 2011  5:24 pm

Since the Ritz-Carlton Los Angeles opened last year right next to L.A. Live’s Nokia Theater—home to the Primetime Emmy and MTV Video Music Awards—its spa has become a pre-event mainstay for nominees and performers. “Our celebrities get ready, walk over via a special tunnel, and pop out onto the red carpet,” reveals spa director Melissa McMahon. “It’s like magic.” With the launch of a whole new crop of opulent, star-powered treatments, the destination stands to add a few more bold-faced names to its list of devotees, which already includes the likes of David Beckham, Nicole Richie, and Justin Bieber. “[They're] inspired by revitalization,” McMahon says of the menu additions. “For this clientele, we needed to create the best treatments on the planet—something they’ve never seen before.” Something like, say, the Champagne & Shimmer Experience, which begins with a raw sugar and acai scrub mixed with dashes of effervescent powder and actual bubbly, which is followed by a full-body massage with LaROCCA’s exclusive 24K gold shea butter and murumuru shimmer body balm. Other over-the-top highlights include the Cashmere & Truffle treatment, which boasts the world’s only service with pure organic cashmere extract, and the Fountain of Youth Facial, which uses Priori’s naturally based cosmeceutical peels that have a better-than-Botox reputation. While the entrance to that secret passageway might be accessible by card-carrying A-listers only, there’s nothing stopping you from getting pampered like one.
