Beyoncé Feels The Pulse
“It was inspired by Sasha Fierce,” a pregnant Beyoncé told the crowd at the Dream Downtown last night, where she was celebrating the launch of her third fragrance, Pulse. “It’s something that happens when I get on stage; I don’t know if it’s the pulse that races before that transforms me, but I believe we all have that inside of us.” Even if you don’t have a Sasha within, the pop princess is offering up her new pear blossom, blue curaçao, bluebird orchid, peony, and Madagascar vanilla scent as a way to spritz on a similar fierceness. The fruity floral is more complicated than the sum of its notes, though. “Women are so interesting. I like a fragrance to be something you can’t just smell and decide exactly what it is.” As such, blue mood lighting, blue orchids, and purple-tinged cocktails served by waitresses appropriately outfitted with aqua pouts (how Richard Chai Spring ’12!) were set up to help partygoers put their finger on the eau’s “electric” quality. “I’m inspired when my pulse is racing,” Beyoncé continued—and presumably when others’ are, too; Mrs. Jay-Z was sporting a particularly tiny minidress last night, cementing the fact that her growing baby bump will not be getting in the way of an opportunity to make a fashion statement anytime soon.
