China Chow’s Work of Nail Art
Last night at Jefferson Hack’s Another Magazine bash at The Fat Radish, several guests showed off some bold beauty looks—Daphne Guinness, with her signature streaked, salt-and-pepper hair, and nightlife diva Sophia Lamar’s purple and blue coif among them. But it was China Chow’s pro tips that stopped us in our tracks as we were en route to the Pulqueria after-party. “They’re for a photo shoot I just did with Karl Lagerfeld,” Chow told Style.com, keeping mum about the full details of her collaboration with the Kaiser. She was more than willing to dish about the inspiration behind her black and nude nails, though, which were the brainchild of manicurist Gina Viviano and Chanel’s creative director of makeup, Peter Philips. “My face was painted to look like a black and white clown,” Chow explained of the color scheme’s origin. While Viviano hand-painted the black moons pictured above, Chow—a self-proclaimed nail-art fanatic—picked up a few new tips. “She used this Orly base that was rubberized, and she had these great, portable hand-soakers from the beauty-supply store,” said Chow. Ladies, to your local Sally Beauty.
