Obsessive, Compulsive, And Now On The Lower East Side

-------

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics creator David Klasfeld started his face-painting career in product development at MAC—”when they were still small and independent”—before launching OCC seven years ago. “I was like a kid in a candy store,” he recalls of the experience—make that a vegan candy store. Klasfeld has been animal byproduct-free for the last few years, which is why using natural, cruelty-free ingredients in his own line of über-bright, pigmented skin, lip, eye, cheek, and nail colors was not up for debate. “It’s more about thinking about what’s in your makeup than trying to join some sort of granola crunchy, Whole Foods movement,” he told Style.com last night at the official opening of his first brick-and-mortar store, which is situated in the Lower East Side, where he grew up. It’s a fitting location for Klasfeld’s vast selection of cult-favorite products, like the ultra-saturated Lip Tar that he used backstage at shows like Steven Alan and Gretchen Jones during NYFW. “It can look demure or punk rock depending how you wear it,” he says—which should suit Ludlow Street’s cross section of hipsters and Murray Hill transplants just fine.
