Blushington’s Rosy Outlook

-------

Playing on the momentum of the 30-minute blow-dry bar that seems to show no signs of slowing anytime soon (L.A.’s Drybar just went bicoastal, opening its latest location in New York during fashion week), Stephi Maron is taking the primping-with-convenience concept one step further with Blushington, a beauty lounge that will make its West Hollywood debut tomorrow. The novelty shop allows women to get full makeup applications in just around a half hour (and for only $35 per session) and is stocked with products from BECCA Cosmetics (chosen for its range of foundation shades), Stila, and Temptu for airbrushing. “We get that women love the idea of getting in and out of here quickly; that’s part of the appeal. But we also still wanted to keep it special,” Maron explained. To that end, the proprietress and her head makeup artist have already defined Blushington’s six signature looks, which range from a dewy SoCal glow to all-out Hollywood glam with winged eyeliner and a perfectly painted pout. The menu also includes an eyes-only option, full-face application, and lash services like tinting and extensions. “I hated that there was nowhere to send my family when they came in from out of town. It became so expensive to go to a department store (many necessitate a three-product buy) and certain ‘free’ counters left them looking awful,” Maron lamented of the void in the marketplace. “I wanted something fun, a place that could be a destination but that didn’t have to be expensive.” Cue the obligatory passed Champagne, VIP section with private entrance for celeb clientele, and the perfect atmosphere for bridal parties. Another draw: Maron has cleverly set up shop right next to Drybar, making straight, smooth strands and the perfect smoky eye a convenient two-stop shop.
