The 411: Sandro’s Evelyne Chetrite

-------

No visit to Paris is complete without a little retail therapy—which many an industry insider is acutely aware of as the Spring shows wind down in the City of Light and last-ditch efforts do get to Celine, Isabel Marant, Colette, and Merci are being made across town. And then, of course, there’s Sandro and Maje, the duo of stores with relatively reasonable price points that have long been perennial shopping favorites for many a style-savvy expat. Their collective success is thanks to founders—and sisters—Evelyne Chetrite (Sandro) and Judith Milgrom’s (Maje) spot-on fashion sensibility. Chetrite launched Sandro in 1984 with her husband, Didier, opening their first boutique in the heart of the Marais on rue Vieille du Temple. Now, almost 30 years later, there are 140 locations worldwide, including New York’s West Village, which opens at the end of the month (Maje will conveniently have its U.S. flagship right next door). Bearing this in mind, we figured there was no better time to ask the always impeccable Chetrite for some of her own local beautifying favorites in Paris; give her a few months, and we’re sure she’ll have an equally informative list of favorites in the Big Apple.

The Body Treatment: Les Bains du Marais
“The integral treatment at this Oriental chic spa in the middle of the Marais is an allover body scrub. First you spend 15 minutes in the hammam with black soap on your skin, then the scrub is put on your body with a sponge made of linen fibers. When it’s rinsed off, your skin is completely soft. And the final step is a light massage with essential oils that leaves your skin fresh and rejuvenated!”

The Day Spa: Spa Clarins at Le Royal Monceau Hotel
“Clarins products and their spa treatments are incredible. I love getting the Soin Ressourcant Hydratation Intense, a moisturizing facial treatment that takes about an hour. It’s very relaxing and completely revitalizes your skin. The spa itself is truly amazing, quiet, and peaceful and the team is precise and knowledgeable. And after the treatment you can take advantage of their pool.”

The Hair Hero: Eric Roman
“I’ve been getting my hair cut and colored at his studio for a very long time. It’s a private apartment so it’s personal and a true moment for yourself. What I love most is that he always does what’s best for you; I am never disappointed.”

The Skincare Secret: Clarins Baume Éclair Beauty Flash Balm
“An absolute must-have! It is the best thing to use before a party.”
$45, www.sephora.com.

The Daily Regimen: Pharmacie Favorites
“I prefer using products from the pharmacy. French pharmacies sell incredible products from brands like La Roche-Posay, Avène, and Bioderma. Some of my favorites are La Roche Posay’s moisturizing creams, Toleriane Ultra and Cicaplast; Biafine, an after-sun cream that can also be used as a daily face cream during the winter when skin is dry; and Bioderma’s H20 to clean and remove makeup.”

The Wellness Routine: Shiatsu
“Shiatsu is perfect to restore the form. I also do massages and take vitamins. In the winter I like to take spiruline, gelee royale, pollen, and magnesium and during the summer I use argan oil for skin and hair.”

The Makeup Must-Haves: Bourjois
“I don’t wear a lot of makeup; just a dark khol eyeliner pencil sometimes and a pink blush from Bourjois Paris.”

The Signature Scent: Annick Goutal
“I love a fresh fragrance like Eau d’Hadrien by Annick Goutal.”
$85, www.nordstrom.com .

The Great Escape: Morocco
“This hotel is perfect. I grew up in Morocco before moving to Paris at 15 and this place makes me feel like I am home. I also like to go to St. Barts for the beaches and the clear water; it’s the perfect escape from Paris winters.”
