Argan Oil’s Latest Coup

As Redken’s creative consultant, Guido Palau dreams up new products for the haircare brand and then puts them into practice backstage at the shows to gather the kind of real-time experience (and ample press) they need to succeed in the consumer market. We can appreciate how a good mousse and firm-hold hair spray transform the locks of models like Liu Wen and Abbey Lee Kershaw for the runway, but neither product typically makes it into our day-to-day routine. There is the occasional exception, though. One of Palau’s big weapons backstage at Alexander Wang and Valentino’s Spring shows was Redken’s All Soft Argan-6 Multi-Care Oil, and it just hit shelves at select salons this month, much to our delight. A softly scented lightweight serum, the golden elixir uses Redken’s patented Interlock Protein Network (IPN) delivery system to deposit fair-trade, omega-6 enriched argan oil into the hair shaft to soften and smooth brittle, frizzy strands. The most impressive thing about the treatment is that it’s as light as it is effective, which makes it incredibly versatile. Apply it to wet hair as a heat-protectant before styling or slather dry hair with a penny-sized dollop for added shine. It also makes for a great deep conditioner when worn overnight and thoroughly rinsed out in the morning. Or you can make like Palau and coat your hands with it before you start a braid, twist, or ponytail to ensure that your updo has a flawless texture.
