The 411: Rococo Nail Apparel’s Ange And Vernice Walker

-------

Rococo Nail Apparel may only be a few years old, but the sisters behind it, Ange and Vernice Walker, have been in the beauty biz for over a decade, doling out manicures behind the scenes on music videos and during London fashion week. Their forward-thinking brand landed stateside in 2009 courtesy of Space NK, and we’ve been smitten ever since. This year saw the birth of the colorful Geisha collection and the duo’s Nude Wardrobe, an array of flesh-toned basics that became an integral part of Spring’s neutral manicure madness. Anyone who has had the pleasure of meeting the sisters Walker know that they are as cool as the polishes they dream up. Here, they divulge their own favorite beauty essentials for pro tips and beyond.

VERNICE WALKER

The Nail Routine: Personal Best

“I’ve been massaging in our Essential Nail Oil as it’s started to get colder. Ange gave me a really flattering shape—the almond nail is on trend at the moment so I will keep the length this winter—and I’ve been wearing our The Darkest Emerald as an alternative to the dark reds and blacks of the season. I like to experiment with colors so I really love to put our Gold Leaf Lacquer on top.”

The Makeup Must-Haves: YSL and Lipstick Queen

“I love makeup, it’s like my armor. I have a thing about eyeliner; it’s something I wouldn’t leave the house without! Makeup artist Fred Letailleur introduced me to YSL’s False Lash Effect Cream Eyeliners as they are great to wear all day. Deep Black is really black and the brush makes it easy to apply. When I am feeling brave I enjoy wearing color on my lips. Lipstick Queen’s Red Sinner is the perfect matte red and has a silky feel.”

The Complexion Perfector: Dermalogica

“I have a simple routine and I like to stick to what I know! I’m a Dermologica fan and use their Special Cleanser, Multi-Active Toner, and Active Moist Moisturizer every day. Two or three times a week I use the Daily Microfoliant to exfoliate and brighten my skin.”

Available at Dermalogica, www.dermalogica.com.

The Depilatory Miracle Worker: Nadiya Bekar-Hill at Michael John London

“She is amazing and has waxed the likes of Lizzie and Georgia Jagger, Juliette Lewis, the Pussycat Dolls, and Erin O’Connor. I was originally put off by waxing after a bad experience with strip wax, but Nadiya uses natural beeswax, which warms the skin and opens the pores. This technique is less painful.”

Michael John London, 25 Albermarle St., London, or contact Nadiya Bekar at 44-07767-823-282 or nadiya@nadiyabekar.com.

The Me-Time Treat: Agua Spa at The Sanderson

“We don’t have a lot of spare time, but I enjoy a massage as a treat. Agua Spa at the Sanderson does a great custom Swedish massage that leaves you feeling reenergized.”

The Sanderson, 50 Berners St., London, 44-0-20-7300-1400, www.sandersonlondon.com.

The Fragrance: Stella McCartney and Lalique

“I bought Encre Noire by Lalique on a recent visit to Paris. Whenever I wear it, it reminds me of my trip. But my all-time favorite fragrance is Stella by Stella McCartney; I find I always come back to it.”

Stella by Stella McCartney, $50, www.sephora.com.

ANGE WALKER

The Nail Routine: Bare Essentials

“I almost always wear our Rococo Nail Apparel C-Cup or Pink Panties. Usually I prefer feminine sugary shades on perfectly manicured nails. A color-block pedicure to perfectly match nude shoes is also really pretty. I look after my own nails and only use our crystal glass files to prevent breaks and snags.”

The Beauty Secret: Bioderma

“Bioderma Crealine H2O is a makeup artist’s best-kept secret. It removes every scrap of makeup even around the eyes. It looks and feels like water, and it leaves your skin peachy and fresh. You can only buy it in Paris so Vernice and I always stock up when we’re there.”

The Stylist With the Most: Paul Meritt

“My hair is a big part of my style, but it’s sometimes dry and needs lots of TLC. Paul Meritt is my cherry-picked session stylist and a friend. He’s cool, always in demand, he creates looks for magazines and shows, and his work is grown-up, soft, touchable, sexy, and never overstyled. I use lots of masks and leave-in treatments from the Shu Uemura Art of Hair range and Bumble and Bumble Prep spray for a great girly blow-dry.”

Paul Meritt Studio, 37 Gosfield St., London, 44-20-7631-5018. To book an appointment, e-mail studi@paulmeritt.com.

The Scrub Savior: Tracie Martyn

“Makeup looks better on flawless, glowing skin, so exfoliation is a key for me. For a dewy complexion I will use Tracie Martyn’s Enzyme Exfoliant.”

$90, www.traciemartyn.com.

The Face-Painting Favorite: Caroline Barnes

“Vernice and I are lucky enough to work with some of the best hair, makeup, and skincare gurus. Caroline Barnes is so great to work with and her makeup is very fresh-looking. When I do my own makeup I like soft-focus smoky eyes with Shu Uemura Liquid Eyeliner, Laura Mercier Sandstone, Bobbi Brown Gunmetal, and MAC Smolder eye shadows, and lips that are always natural. I’m not really a lipstick fan but Rouge d’Armani in No. 100 is a retro nude that suits my style.”
