Almost Lipstick, Always A Good Call
If there were a Beauty Hall of Fame, Clinique’s Black Honey lipstick would be one of the original inductees. The dark berry pout perfector that launched in 1971 had a major resurgence in the nineties when it became the war paint of Gen X’ers, for whom dark lipstick was part of the uniform of the truly grunge and disaffected. The color’s sheer iteration, dubbed Almost Lipstick, has been an equally big success story. Since its debut in 1989, the glossy, bordeaux-tinged balm became a key player in Clinique’s Fall 2011 color story. It caused so much of a stir, in fact, that the slim silver bullet has inspired a full range of Almost Lipsticks in seven new shades. Shy Honey is a true pink, Tender Honey is an amber brown, Spice Honey is a warm mahogany, Luscious Honey is a dark red, Chic Honey is is a perfect brick red, Lovely Honey is a pretty coral, and Flirty Honey is a shiny watermelon. Each one imparts just enough color to enhance, rather than conceal, the natural color of lips. Consider them palette cleansers for those days when you need a break from full-blown, opaque pigments.
