Spritz On The Sparkle
While we’ve been resisting the inevitable holiday shopping we have to do over the next week (on our agenda: children’s gifts for two little girls under three and some soccer paraphernalia for our boyfriend’s brother-in-law), there is one thing we’ve been looking forward to since December got under way: holiday parties. We’re happy to report that we’ve got our first such soirée this weekend, a casual affair with a dress code that’s been specified as “holiday fancypants.” That said, we’ll be sporting a black circle skirt and a new white angora sweater—with satin bows and pearls!—and adding a little additional sparkle to our skin courtesy of this season’s latest round of shimmer powders. But these aren’t your average gold-flecked compacts. Both Givenchy’s L’Or Céleste Starry Powder and Guerlain’s Vol de Nuit Powder Spray feature loose, light-reflecting pigments encased in retro-inspired bottles with black mesh atomizers that release a mist of subtly scented powder for an iridescent glow on limbs, décolletage, and cheekbones. The two formulas also add a pretty sparkle to hair when spritzed onto strands sparingly—which should work well with the satin bow-tied ponytail we’re planning on breaking out for the occasion. They want holiday fancypants? We’ll give them holiday fancypants.
