Behind The Voile
It’s the first week of January, which means I’ve officially reached my palest point of the year. It’s been a full four months since I last stepped foot on a beach, and any tan I managed to amass in the summer of 2011 has long since dwindled away. Winter 2012 is all about a visibly olive-tinged pallidness. But you now what? I’m embracing it. My eyebrows seem darker, my freckles are more vibrant, and my hazel eyes seem to pop against my newly subdued complexion, which needs little more than a smudge of blush to look animated. I’ve been favoring a very sheer blush formula of late, versus something more bold and opaque (full disclosure: that formula has been a see-through lip stain, which I’ve been dotting onto my lips and cheeks). But I recently stumbled upon YSL’s new Voile de Blush, and it’s a game-changer. Part of its limited-edition Spring collection, the gel formula goes on like a tinted gloss without the sticky finish, imparting just a whisper of warmth in three different shades: 01 Carmine Veil is a creamy rose, 02 Coral Veil is a pleasant peach, and 03 Pink Veil is a light bubble gum that has a barely-there cotton candy quality. I imagine they’ll look just as pretty come June, when my (SPF-protected) sun-worshipping commences again, which is why I’m stocking up now; it’s never too early to start prepping for summer.
