Makeup For Ladies Of The Canyon
When we saw Estée Lauder creative makeup director Tom Pecheux backstage at Derek Lam last season, he had California on the brain. Architect Richard Neutra’s special brand of Hollywood Hills home design informed Pecheux’s palette of structural dark lines and sun-kissed accents. But for his new Lauder color collection, the makeup guru zeroed in on the Southwest. Pure Color Topaz is inspired by Arizona’s “amazing desert colors and the shadows that play on the sand and rocks.” The limited-edition range includes a few standouts that debuted at Lam’s show (an amazing, canary yellow Pure Color Gloss in Citron Kiss, among them), alongside a brand-new eye shadow palette, a truly sumptuous Pure Color Illuminating Powder Gelee in Topaz Chameleon, three new Pure Color Sensuous Rouge Lip Colors, and a muted teal Pure Color Nail Lacquer for your polishing pleasure. We were most drawn, however, to the Intense Kajal Eye Crayons—chubby sticks that apply with a creamy finish, which were modeled after the sooty pigments popular in India. Available in Dramatic Teal and Dramatic Black, the pencils can be blended for a sultry effect or used to rim lids with an exact line when precisely sharpened. In case you haven’t heard, it’s all about eyeliner for Spring 2012.
