EXCLUSIVE: Caught on Tape! Peter Philips, Stone Cutter
If you followed our voracious backstage Instagramming effort from the Fall shows, then you’ve already seen a close-up of the gorgeous, precious-stone-encrusted eyebrows that Peter Philip whipped up for Chanel with Parisian embroidery atelier Lesage. But you presumably haven’t witnessed him hand-applying each one with a prosthetic adhesive—or gotten a first look at Notorious, the ingenious blush/eye shadow crossbreed that the Chanel creative director of makeup plans to debut along with his Les Essentiels de Chanel color collection later this summer. In a style.com exclusive, Philips talks about turning Karl Lagerfeld’s crystal castle set into a show-worthy makeup look using a palette of products that he refers to as “a dangerous name team”; the two must-have Chanel nail lacquers for Fall, also on view here, are called Frenzy and Vertigo, respectively—a nod to the dark glamour that dominated the season and the films of one Alfred Hitchcock, who sired the genre.
