Anna Sui, Diane von Furstenberg, and Calvin Klein have all done it. Vera Wang is getting set to do it next month at a Kohl’s store near you. I’m speaking of designers dipping their fashionable toes into the wide world of cosmetics. It’s not an unusual transition—even less unusual, of course, is the foray into fragrance—but Nicole Miller decided instead to choose a beauty path less traveled. She’s forgoing lipsticks and eye shadows in favor of serums and cleansers. Created in collaboration with the New York plastic surgeon Dr. Cap Lesesne, Nicole Miller’s eponymous skincare collection—comprising Crème de Nuit night cream, the Toner and Tightener, Crème de Jour day cream, Luxe Cleanser, Eye Wear, and the Glow Serum—is as simple and streamlined as those LBDs she’s been churning out since the 1980′s. “My goal while designing clothing is to make women feel confident and feminine,” explains Miller. “And with Nicole Miller Beauty, I want women to derive the same feeling of empowerment from their skincare regime as they do from their favorite dress.” Formulated to combat the first signs of aging and the effects of environmental pollutants, the line is designed specifically with twenty- to fortysomethings in mind. “Our line consists of a combination of sea salt and algae extracts to detoxify, plus licorice and several other brightening ingredients to slow melanin production,” explains Lesesne. “Our goal was to create something that would detox, repair, and have an immediate effect on the skin.” Miller’s personal favorite item, the Glow Serum, gets the highest marks for doing just that: A few dabs swiped across the skin impart an easy, dewy radiance. And that will never go out of style.
