The Lipstick Diaries
Poppy King was caught cheating recently. The Lipstick Queen founder and self-professed lipstick addict consulted on—gasp!—a nail polish collection with Kate Spade this month after debuting a successful round of pout perfectors for the brand last fall. But now King is putting her money back where her mouth is with the first volume of her new Lipstick Library—a series of collectible “storybooks” that tells the tale of three different lipstick shades. Liptropolis, the first installment, is inspired by the 1927 Fritz Lang film Metropolis and uses Manhattan as a backdrop to differentiate between Soho, a bright red; Central Park, a muted peach; and Upper East, a sophisticated nude. Each color is slightly sheer but still packs a pigment-rich, emollient punch thanks to an infusion of shea butter along with avocado and jojoba seed oil. According to King, a second volume is already in the works. And the intrigue mounts.
