Not Just A Cleanser, The Cleanser

A little while ago, I got very into cleansing balms—oil-based makeup and grime removers that you massage into skin, emulsify with a little warm water, then wipe off with a washcloth. There’s something about this method, versus the more customary lather-and-rinse approach of foaming washes and the like, that is both cathartic and effective; it’s a lovely pre-bedtime ritual that I can muster the energy for almost all of the time (full disclosure: I probably go to sleep with my makeup on at least two nights a week. Not proud). After scraping every little bit of Omorovicza’s Thermal Cleansing Balm out of its little glass jar, I was on the hunt for a similarly stellar replacement, which I found in The Cleanser from SkinnySkinny. The organic formula is not soap free—it does include a small amount of potassium hydroxide—but it is extremely gentle thanks to a hefty amount of organic coconut oil, extra-virgin olive oil, jojoba oil, aloe vera, lavender essential oil, and rosemary extract, which help remove even the most stubborn mascaras without stripping skin. That the ingenious elixir comes in a recyclable, reusable amber glass bottle, which is plastered with a biodegradable label and made at a 100 percent carbon-neutral lab, makes it that much easier to love.
