The Tantalist, Now Making House Calls

James Read has earned his reputation as London’s “Tan Tailor” for the way he can deliver a unique, totally natural, red carpet-ready bronze to a client list that includes Rosey Huntington-Whitely, Lady Gaga, Mariah Carey and Sienna Miller. After debuting a professional spray-on faux glow exclusively at the Sanderson Hotel’s Agua Spa earlier this year, Read is preparing to up the stakes with his very own at-home tanning range, set to launch next week.

Unsurprisingly, the Tantalist—as Read is also endearingly called—hasn’t skimped on quality. His 11-piece line has been formulated with a serious emphasis on skincare so you get a sun-kissed finish and so much more. Hyaluronic acid, Q10 as well as tried-and-trusted natural extracts like aloe vera and red algae (known for its cell renewing abilities) figure prominently into the Gradual Tan for Face and Gradual Tan for Body, both of which come in light and medium tints, as well as our early favorite, the compact BB Tan Face Pen. Boasting a brush, not a pump dispenser, the sheer lotion corrects imperfections with brightening and anti-aging ingredients while the gradual tan subtly deepens tone after a few applications.

But the collection’s biggest selling point may be its aroma. The cloying chemical scent of dihydroxyacetone (DHA) has been completely masked by a fresh, soothing fragrance reminiscent of a spa encounter. As an added bonus, each bottle comes with directions and some interesting beauty tricks of the trade. Did you know that after cleansing, you should rub an ice cube over your skin to seal pores? James Read did.

Available beginning June 2012 at Harvey Nichols.
