François Nars Colors Outside The Lines
“I’ve always felt strongly that there should be few rules when it comes to makeup.” So sayeth face-painting legend François Nars—and so it goes with his new fall collection. The usual, seasonal suspects are there—a trio of brick red-gone-bordeaux lip fixes, including the sensational Sheer Lipstick in Autumn Leaves, a translucent caramel-y red; a new Larger Than Life Lip Gloss in Rouge Tribal, a metallic, mocha-burgundy; and a Pure Matte Lipstick in Amsterdam, a warm garnet. A limited-edition nail polish in Storm Bird, a slate gray, also calls to mind September’s traditional color palette. But two of the collection’s “must-haves,” according to Nars, are slightly less predictable. High Society, a limited-edition Trio Eyeshadow, features a shimmering lilac pigment more recognizable as part of spring offerings. But alongside a matte forest green and a deep aubergine, the color takes on a new icy-cool quality that all of a sudden makes sense for fall. The new Undress Me Multiple is similarly surprising in that it is a nude pink cream with a lot of silver—rather than gold—shimmer. “It’s beautiful in the hollow of cheeks,” Nars explains of how best to utilize its frosty finish, which works equally well as a highlighter on brows or cheekbones. Our current favorite from the lineup is the Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil, though, which is now slicking in More, a sheer auburn that amps up your natural lip color with a dose of moisture that’s never sticky.
